What is a VPN? Understanding How It Works

A Virtual Private Network (VPN) is a powerful tool that enhances your online security and privacy. Let’s delve into the details:

1. What Does VPN Stand For?

VPN stands for “Virtual Private Network”. It provides a way to establish a protected network connection even when you’re using public networks. Here’s how it works:

2. How Does a VPN Work?

  • Encryption: When you use a VPN, it encrypts your internet traffic, making it difficult for third parties to track your online activities or steal your data. This encryption happens in real time.

  • IP Address Concealment: A VPN hides your IP address by routing your data through a specially configured remote server operated by the VPN host. Essentially, the VPN server becomes the source of your data. This means your Internet Service Provider (ISP) and other third parties cannot see which websites you visit or what data you send and receive online.

  • Data Transformation: Think of a VPN as a filter that turns all your data into “gibberish”. Even if someone were to intercept your data, it would be useless without the encryption key.

3. Benefits of Using a VPN Connection:

a. Enhanced Security:

  • Secure Encryption: To read the data, an attacker would need an encryption key. Without it, deciphering the code would take millions of years during a brute force attack.

  • Protection on Public Networks: Whether you’re at a coffee shop or an airport, a VPN ensures your online activities remain hidden from prying eyes.

b. Anonymity and Privacy:

  • Disguising Your Whereabouts: VPN servers act as proxies, making it impossible to determine your actual location. Most VPN services also don’t store logs of your activities, ensuring your user behavior remains hidden.

  • Access to Regional Content: VPNs allow you to switch to servers in other countries, effectively changing your location. This enables access to region-specific content.

c. Secure Data Transfer:

  • Remote Work: If you work remotely and need access to important files on your company’s network, a VPN connection provides the necessary security.

4. Why Should You Use a VPN Connection?

Your Internet Service Provider (ISP) typically sets up your connection when you go online. They track you via your IP address. Using a VPN ensures your data remains private and secure, protecting you from potential threats.

Remember, a VPN is like a digital cloak that shields your online presence. Whether you’re browsing, streaming, or working remotely, a VPN is a valuable tool to safeguard your privacy and keep your data confidential.

Differences between Rapidseedbox VPN and Built-In VPN

You may have heard or even already used our VPN service. But which one do you have? What are differences between the two?

The following outlines the differences between the two.

Built-In VPN

Rapidseedbox VPN

What is it?

A feature as part of your Seedbox Plan purchase. Whether it's Lean or Premium Plan.

A distinct service purchased separately unrelated with our seedbox service. But of course, you can use it to connect to our seedbox. It provides only a VPN service.

Where is the server?

The VPN server is running directly on your seedbox host. The servers are built with common apps for a seedbox activity. The VPN parts are considered an extra.

Many servers located around the Globe. The servers are built specifically for VPN traffic.

Can it bypass geoblocking?

VPN connections will always come from your seedbox ip address. You can only appear as a single IP/Location.

You can appear to connect from the location of the country of the server you chose.

What can my ISP see?

Even though your ISP cannot see the communications between you and your seedbox, ISP can see that you are connecting to an IP address associated with us.

Your ISP can only see that you are connecting to an IP address associated with a VPN server. They cannot see who you are connecting with at the end.

What about speed?

Depends on the speed of the connection from your place to your seedbox.

Also, the servers are built for seedbox purpose first.

You can pick and choose the server location to get more optimal speed. Most likely, the server closest to you is the fastest. So, Rapidseedbox VPN is most likely faster than Built-In VPN.

What are VPN protocols used?

OpenVPN and Wireguard.

OpenVPN, IPSEC/IKEv2 and Wireguard
