Claim Plex and add your libraries

Easily claim your Plex Media Server and set up first time libraries

Updated over a week ago

What is Plex?

Plex Media Server is a digital media player and organizational tool that allows you to access the music, pictures, and videos stored on one computer with any other computer or compatible mobile device. Let us show you how to set it up and use it.

To begin using Plex Media Server on any device, you must take a few steps first. Don't worry; we made things easier and created this step-by-step guide to Claim your Plex Media Server and add your first Library 🙂

Let's get started!

Claiming your Plex Media Server

Step 1

First, go to your Client Area >> Services >> Control Panel

**You can find your credentials by clicking the Show Password button

Step 2

Click on the Claim Plex link and sign in or create your Plex Account ✅

Don't worry; if you haven't created a Plex account yet, we'll make that easy too! 😏

After you log in using your Plex account credentials, you'll receive a Claim Code with the option to Copy it to Clipboard. Press the copy button and exit the popup 🙂

Step 3

Now, head back to your SeedboxCP, paste the code, and hit Claim.

After you have hit the button, be patient while your server is being activated 🙂

If everything goes well, we should now be looking at the Claimed status next to Plex on our Dashboard! 🧐

Step 4

After we have claimed our Plex Media Server, it's time to update the Plex Media Server installation on your Seedbox. This will bring your Plex Media Server instance up to date with the newest version supported by the Ubuntu developers (which might not be the latest one available from plex.tv).

To update Plex Media Server (or any other One-Click Installer), we'll head to our list of installed applications and find Plex in the Installed >> Streaming section.

If you see an Arrow Up ⬆️ icon next to your Plex Media Server, please click on it.

Step 5 - Reboot

Once you've received confirmation that the process is complete, it's time to reboot your seedbox to implement updates.

If you haven't yet had a reason to reboot your box, please head to your Services >> Controls >> Reboot

Final Step - Adding Libraries 🎥

Now we are ready to add our first libraries! We'll walk through one of the ways you can add media to your Plex library.

  • On the sidebar, click on MORE

  • Then, click on (+) Add Library.

  • Here we can select what content will be in this specific library. Please make a selection and press Next

  • Here we set the path of the media library we set in the previous step.

For example: if my TV folder were stored in /home/user/plex/tv <--- this would be the path I would use in this step.

Note that you can add more than one path to a Plex library. This can be useful when you have 4K content on top of regular content.

If you'd like to add custom configurations, such as:

  • Cinema Trailers

  • Use local artwork

  • Hide or unhide adult content

  • Enable or disable preview thumbnails

Please hit the Advanced button to further configure these options for each library you create.

If you are finished editing your libraries, you can click Save Changes.

Plex will automatically begin scanning your newly added libraries

Have fun streaming!

I don't know what to do next...
