How to transfer data from previous provider to your Seedbox via FTP

If you have recently joined us and wish to transfer your data from a previous provider, you have come to the right place!

Updated over a week ago

The most of Seedbox providers offer at least FTP access for transferring the files. You can use this protocol to transfer already downloaded files to our Seedbox.

In this example, we will explain the procedure using Filezilla, since it is the easiest FTP client to work with and it is widely used.

Step 1

Find the FTP credentials of your previous Seedbox. Informations that you need are:

  1. FTP username.

  2. FTP password.

  3. FTP port.

  4. FTP mode (implicit or explicit FTP SSL negotiation).

If you are not sure which FTP mode your previous provider use, please refer to their documentation/support to get information about it.

Note - Explicit or Implicit mode only depends on FTPs connections, if your provider provides plain FTP authentication, this step can be skipped.

Step 2

Connect to our Seedbox using Remote Connection. We recommend you to use X2go client since it is the most secure way of establishing the connection.
If you are not sure how to use X2go please refer to this article.

Step 3

Once you are logged via Remote Desktop, find the Filezilla's icon on your Desktop:

Once you open it, you will need to connect to your previous Seedbox, by providing details that you've obtained in the Step One.

Please go to File/Site Manager or press CTRL+S, to create a new connection. After filling required fields, you should get something like this:

Step 4

Now that you've established the connection in both ways, it is the time to transfer data. Since Filezilla is a GUI FTP client this can be easily achieved by using the drag-and-drop technique.

When you are connected via FTP, the Local Site will be your previous provider, and Remote Site will be our Seedbox, so to transfer files simply drag files or folders from your Local Site and drop it Remote site destination directory.
